Day 1 - Empowerment Fund

Your support through the 12 Days of Christmas Appeal will go directly into the Empowerment Fund. Explore the rest of this advent calendar for some real-life stories of how the Empowerment Fund makes a real difference.

What is the Empowerment Fund?

When people move on from our housing into a home of their own, they often struggle to afford the essentials. Through the Empowerment Fund, people can apply for practical items that will help them settle into their new home. This could include household items such as a cooker, bed, washing machine, fridge – or even a set of pots and pans – or the ID that they need to sign the tenancy, get a job or open their own bank account.

People supported so far include:

Susie manged to leave her abusive partner, but all her money went into his bank account. She desperately needed ID to open her own bank account. The Fund paid for a passport for her and we helped her get her money paid into her own account.

John had been on the streets for three years, and had nothing except a black bag of clothes. We helped him get a flat, and he applied to the fund to furnish it. He was happy to buy cheap secondhand items, but on his benefits he couldn’t even afford them. We paid for the essentials, a bed, cooker, washer and fridge.
